July 2019 Non-Believer Horoscopes

Astrology for the Non-Believer

by Blake Wiers

Amazingly, it is July 2019. We are halfway through the year, and personally, I’m still wondering when things are going to start picking up around here. Which means I really need to pay attention to what *is* happening, because life tends to happen while you’re waiting for the big plan to kick in.

The May full moon blasted my old life into pieces, how about you? My computer died, I got a new phone but erased all my contacts, and three years of focusing on writing (on that computer) above all else has left me with back issues which compounded into more maladies that frankly I don’t even want to discuss. Let’s just say it’s enough to make me want to re-examine my daily habits.

One result is this is my first professional writing done on a phone. I wanted to use speech to text, I have an app that’s pretty good, but it’s just before 5am and I would disturb my wife. So I’m swipe typing, a joy known to Android users but not iPhone users. I considered giving up my computer all together, but instead it is in the shop. All told, fixing it could have bought me three or four decent smartphones. None of which would force me to sit at the ducking computer all day long.

But, alas, I am from a generation that equates real computers with real work, even though I mostly use the damn thing to waste time…ahem, research. It will be interesting to see whether my revived machine still holds the same weight in my daily routine. I hope not.

In a few short months, it will be 2020. And weirdly, while most of the 21st century so far has seemed like a directionless mess, with a hangover of bad ideas from the past couple millennia (religious wars? fossil fuels? men in charge?), surely 2020 is the future.

We do have a lot of stuff that was predicted in “the future.” Watches you can talk to (well, text on), solar powered electric vehicles that can drive all day without a charge (ok, maybe they’re still college engineering experiments, but they do exist), the life sustaining systems of our planet have been irreversibly destabilized, and best of all, we have a washed-up entertainer as our leader, who leads us all in cheering for the latest champion in the Death Race. Oh wait, that’s not quite right, but it certainly feels accurate.

Oh, and we’ve found lots of new planets. Once, we were unsure if any other stars had planets. Then we got a telescope powerful enough to see. Where did we find the first planet outside our solar system? Circling around the star closest to us. Aka, the first place we looked.

Inside our solar system, the big news for this month is a Mercury retrograde, from July 9th to the 30th. But as my recent tech meltdown attests, not all bad stuff happens during the messenger’s backslide, and in fact, some things which seem “bad” might actually be gifts in disguise. Sometimes you have to touch bottom to bounce back.

Non-Believer Horoscopes for July 2019

Aries (March 21-April 20)

If you’re wondering when your future will begin, take a look in the mirror. You are already there. Like what you see? Great. Don’t? Then get off your duff and do something about it. This is as good a time as you will ever get to push for the future you want.

Taurus (April 20-May 21)

The home renovations have been spectacular, but you might do well to encourage your contractor to get out of the kitchen before Mercury goes retrograde on the 9th. This will clear up headspace for a trip down memory lane, and a clearer vision of, you guessed it, your future.

Gemini (May 21-June 21)

Have things been quiet? No longer. July is a chatty one for the twins. You’re on a roll, the top dog of communication, but you would do your best not to weaponize your words. Why punch down when you can lift up?

Cancer (June 21-July 22)

Take this birthday month to do a little navel gazing. Who am I? What do I stand for? You may be negotiating for money, home & social standing, and this might be an especially good time to remind yourself what a loving, caring, giving person you are. Also, don’t be afraid to cry a little. It helps.

Leo (July 22-August 22)

The fog will burn off mid-month when Mars visits Leo until August 10th. Enjoy the burst of energy, get out and be social. Work and health dominate the beginning of the month, but the end of the month is all about relationships.

Virgo (August 22-September 22)

If you don’t say what’s on your mind, you only have yourself to blame when things don’t go the way you wanted. You are not a passive player in this one awesome life, curating your experience is part of the fun.

Libra (September 22-October 22)

Your planet, Venus, has been hanging out in Gemini. Have you been enjoying a Midas touch? The good vibes carry on through September, so make hay! Your favorite words may become everyone’s catchphrase, so, you know, be smart.

Scorpio (October 22-November 21)

The search ain’t over, Scorpio. Keep looking! You may even begin a new journey, inward to that place of deep seated knowing, or on a new course of study. Roll with it. And if anyone objects, don’t react. You don’t need to waste your valuable energy fighting other people’s demons.

Sagittarius (November 21-December 21)

The weight of the world is still pulling your happy-go-lucky self right down to the ground. It’s ok. Feel it. Live it. Love it. You may not travel far, but you could move there.

Capricorn (December 21-January 20)

Other people may be asking the questions, but don’t count on them for the answers. They’re inside you. Listen. And while you’re at it, pay attention to your own internal gas gauge. When you’re full, you’ve had enough.

Aquarius (January 20-February 19)

“One day at a time” is great advice for all of us, and especially for Aquarius right now. What you do on the daily adds up to what you do in life. Make this a great day, even if it means laughing at pain.

Pisces (February 19-March 21)

Why are you here? The question still burns, and may be the focus of a new creative project, but there is likely more than one answer, and one of them might simply be, “to enjoy health and love.” Give in to the bliss. Exercise your body, mind, and spirit.
